JONESBORO AR - A NEIGHBOR'S DOG ESCAPED ITS PEN AND ATTACKED A 5-YEAR-OLD CHILD

(KAIT) -
A 5-year-old child suffered a two-inch cut to the back of his right calf Wednesday after police say a dog bit him in Jonesboro.
Maria Garay, 46, of Jonesboro was cited Thursday for having a dog at large and harboring a dangerous animal after the incident on Prospect Road.
Officer David Cooley said he spoke with Dallas Jordan Lee West about what happened.
West told police that he saw the dog escape its pen earlier and that the owners were able to catch the dog and put it back in its pen.
However, the dog got out again, West told police.
"About five minutes after the owners left, he said he saw the dog was back out again and called Animal Control about the dog running loose," the report states. "He said at that point, the dog came into the yard, ran up and bit the victim."
Garay told police that the dog had been out before but had been put up before she left to pick up her granddaughter from the babysitter, Cooley said in the report.
