A 74-year-old man and his poodle suffered minor injuries Monday after a dog attacked them in the Lee’s Hill South subdivision in Spotsylvania County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The man was walking his poodle on Old Dominion Parkway at 4 p.m. when he saw a BOXER run out of the woods toward him and another woman, who was also walking her dog, Maj. Troy Skebo wrote in an email. The woman picked up her dog before the Boxer jumped at her. The 3-year-old boxer then “turned his aggression” to the man’s poodle, Skebo said. The man “intervened and physically restrained the dog to prevent further injury until animal control deputies arrived,” he said.
The man endured a head injury and bites to his hand during the incident, Skebo said. He was treated at the scene, and his poodle received stitches for bite wounds at an animal hospital.
The woman and her dog were unharmed.
A friend of the boxer’s owner was taking care of the dog when it escaped, Skebo said. The owner is out of town.
The ongoing investigation could result in criminal charges, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The boxer has been quarantined.
