Martinique: Child seriously bitten by dog

A 15-month-old child was reportedly bitten in the face by an  AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER, also known as  an Amstaff –  a dog with a powerful bite.

According to Martinique 1 ere, the incident occurred  at around 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the child’s home.  The child was rushed to hospital and was due to undergo surgery, it was reported.

The Amstaff is described as  a medium-sized, short-coated American dog breed,  one of several breeds commonly known as pit bulls.

It is considered dangerous and is classified as such in France.  As a result, anyone who owns such a dog must apply for a permit.

In addition, on public roads the dog must be muzzled and kept on a leash.
