CLARKSVILLE, MONTGOMERY COUNTY TN - A 5-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS FATALLY MAULED BY HIS FAMILY'S 2 ENGLISH MASTIFFS

A 5-year-old boy was killed in a dog attack in Clarksville Thursday morning.  At about 8:20 a.m. Emergency personnel were called to a home on Charles Thomas Road, according to a news release from the Clarksville Police Department. They found a 5-year-old boy who had extensive injuries from being mauled by the family’s two dogs.The child was transported to Tennova Medical Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Both dogs are ENGLISH MASTIFFS, each under 1 year old. The dogs have been placed in the custody of Montgomery County Animal Control, the release said.  Anyone with additional information on this incident is asked to contact Detective Tim Anderson (931) 648-0656 ext. 5132 or the TIPS line at 645-TIPS.

1)  1-17 LOGAN BRAATZ - 6 - ATLANTA GA - The boy was walking to his school bus stop with other children and some adults when 2 loose dogs began attacking them - It was reported that Logan was eviscerated, his friend Syrai Sanders was scalped and another child was injured - Although neighbors came running with sticks, knives and whatever they could find, the attack was deadly and swift and the dogs continued to circle and attempt to attack - The dog owner said his dogs had a fence but "SOMEHOW" got out.

2) 1-17 SKYLAR DEAN JULIUS - 2-MONTHS-OLD - SAN MARCOS TX - The father was caring for the infant girl while the mother was at work - He fell asleep for around 20 minutes and when he woke up the baby had been mauled by the family German Shepherd they had had for over 8 years and it was reported that the dog "had never shown aggression before".

3) 2-13 LOUISE HERMIDA - 75 - QUEENS NY - The elderly woman was mauled by her large dog that had been adopted almost 6 years ago. The breed is said to be a Mastiff or a Mastiff/Great Dane mix.  Neighbors say as many as 10 dogs lived at the apartment.  Her 39-year-old son, who has autism, attempted to put the dog in its cage and he was bitten on the leg. 

4) 2-16 UNIDENTIFIED 5-YEAR-OLD BOY - CLARKSVILLE TN - Emergency personnel were called at 8:20am on a Thursday morning to a report that the Family's two English Mastiffs reported to be about 6-months-old had mauled the child. The boy died from extensive injuries.

Mastiffs are making a strong showing early this year. Very scary dogs. As soon as I saw the photo of the puppies, I could tell they were young before I even read the article. It looks like they were underfed. They look scrawny and the beige one has its ribs showing.

That's not uncommon for that age. They aren't underfed. Growing so fast and getting so big is hard on the joints if they are overweight. They take 2-3 years to reach their full weight and height. Very unusual for them to be aggressive especially with family members. Not having all the details makes it hard to speculate as to what could have happened. Sometimes males can become stressed and aggressive if females are in heat. Although no articles mention what sex the dogs are.
