The owner of a puppy killed in Crystal Palace Park has spoken of her sorrow following the violent death of her beloved family pet.
The six-month old Chihuahua was crushed to death in the locked jaw of a  "STAFFIE"  while out on a Saturday walk.
It was the treasured companion of Sophie Tuncas and her 11-year-old son Abrish, who watched horrified as their pet was taken from them.
The South Norwood family had planned to have the mild mannered animal, named Rio, trained to become a therapy dog used to cheer up children in hospital.
But the small puppy, not yet old enough to have learned how to bark, was killed as passers-by desperately tried to free the dog from the other animal's grip.
Rio had been approached by what were reportedly two STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS  while being walked in the park on Saturday, January 21.
Sophie said: "It was such a beautiful day, and we were so happy.
"We were enjoying the company of other dog owners, saying hello. Then my son wanted to go to the play area.
"Near there my dog was approached by two others, I called to their owner to see if they were OK – he said yes.
"Then I heard a wimper from Rio and I knew something was wrong.
"I went to pick him up but one of the dogs grabbed him. He was out of control, no one could catch him. He wasn't on a lead.
"He died in his locked jaw. I could see his little head was just going down. Then the dog spat out my little dog.
"He was dead."
Sophie and others had tried to wrestle little Rio free, but it was already too late.
The owner of the two terriers reportedly left the scene, and police are now looking into the incident.
