LINCOLN HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES CA - 2 PIT BULL ATTACKED A POMERANIAN BEING WALKED BY ITS OWNER - VALENTINE HERRERA, 76 - "DODGER" WAS KILLED AND THEN THE MEAT GRINDERS TURNED ON HERRERA WHO IS NOW IN VERY CRITICAL CONDITION

A 76-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being attacked by two pit bulls as he was walking his dog in Lincoln Heights on Thursday, according to officials.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said the man was attacked in the 2600 block of North Lincoln Park Avenue at about 5:45 p.m.

Officials and witnesses say the man was walking his Pomeranian when the two pit bulls first attacked and killed his dog and then went after him.

The man's family identified him as Valentine Herrera, 76, and said he was undergoing brain surgery for injuries sustained in the attack. His Pomeranian that was killed in the attack was named Dodger.
One witness told Eyewitness News it appeared the pit bulls' owner made no attempt to help Herrera. Neighbors also say the pit bulls have caused numerous problems before.

While officials initially said the two pit bulls were dead at the scene, they later corrected that statement, saying in fact the two are still alive and were removed by animal services.

Can you imagine taking your dog for a walk, and then needing brain surgery? Only with pit bulls! But let's not have BSL!

This is why it blows my mind that the rescues think it's ok to list dogs for adoption that are dog aggressive. They go to great lengths to disguise the fact too. They have a lot of set phrases to go describe vicious dogs to avoid saying, "this animal sees its own species as prey." Reactive, selective, only female dogs, only submissive dogs, must be only pet. It will therefore be a menace to whatever neighborhood and community it is released into as other dogs are everywhere. You are no friend of dogs (or cats) if you "rescue" and release the monster that rips them apart. The rescues bemoan euthanasia but surely that is a kinder end than the brutal death poor little Dodger went through. And then so many people end up injured after these monsters, lured over to kill their pet, then turn on them like this poor gentleman. Prayers for Mr. Herrera's recovery.
