A recent dog attack in Maggie Valley left one dog dead and two people injured.
It happened early Friday evening along Ash Drive in Maggie Valley.
Beverly Slone's daughter was walking their dogs when another dog being walked by a neighbor slipped out of his collar. Slone’s daughter said the BULLDOG-PIT MIX attacked and killed her mother's Sheltie named "Missy."
Slone said the dog has a history of attacks and is dangerous.
“I feel the dog, because of its history, should be put down," she said. "I feel it's a menace not only to other dogs but to small children that would run through the yard."
The man walking the pit-mix tried to stop the attack, and his hand was bitten.
“It's under an amputation issue. It's barely hanging on,” Donald Yost said.
Slone's daughter says a woman across the road also tried to help and was bitten. Both went to the emergency room
The attacking dog, named “Jerico,” remains in quarantine at the animal shelter for a mandatory 10 days. An investigation is under way that will determine his fate.
According to the incident report, the dog's owner apologized to her neighbors and is complying with procedures.
