A 60-pound pit bull has been quarantined after attacking a woman and her three-year-old terrier while running loose in Yarmouth, police said Thursday.
The woman suffered bites to her back and hands, and her small dog was found “bloody and motionless,” Yarmouth police said in a statement.
Police responded to a report of a dog attack in the area of Higgins Crowell Road and Roberta Drive at 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, the statement said.
The woman told police that five minutes into walking her 12-pound terrier, she heard a dog barking and footsteps getting closer.
The two and a half-year-old PIT BULL, which she recognized from the neighborhood, jumped on her back and then grabbed her dog by the neck, shaking him violently back and forth, police said.

The pit bull left them after its owner was heard calling the dog to come back, the woman told police.

The woman’s thick clothing prevented serious injury, but she suffered bruising, swelling, and a broken finger, as well as torn clothes, police said.
Her injured dog spent the night at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Dennis, and was taken Thursday to an advanced animal care facility where he is in critical condition.
The pit bull’s owner is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The Yarmouth Department of Natural Resources Animal Control and Protection Unit and Yarmouth police are conducting the investigation.

Pit bulls, the terrorists of the dog world. Oh, I mean, the nanny, hero, America's dog.

"The pit bull’s owner is cooperating with investigators, police said." ? ? The sixty pound dog tackled a woman just walking down the street and tried to kill her dog. She was saved from serious injury by heavy clothing. Her dog was seriously hurt. If I were the dog's owner, it would be a quick hug goodbye, thanks for not killing me or anyone in the family, but obviously you are freaking psychotic and it's rainbow bridge time. Then I pay all bills and apologize profusely and sincerely.

Holy crap, I KNOW!! By "cooperating" the pit owner has answered the necessary questions and allowed for his mauler to be quarantined, most likely in his own home. But then he will fight tooth and nail to keep his precious "family member"!
