A Laredo police officer shot and killed a loose dog that was allegedly attacking people in the Three Points neighborhood, authorities said.
At 8:33 a.m. Monday, the officer was dispatched to reports of a loose PIT BULL in the 2300 block of Guatemozin Street.
The officer noticed the dog walking around the property that belonged to its owner. He tried closing the gate to contain the dog, but it growled at the officer, an LPD report states.
Police said the dog charged at the officer. He used his baton to keep it at bay but to no avail, according to LPD. He then shot at the dog three times. Police said it died due to its injuries.
Its owner, Oscar Sanchez, exited the home after the shots were fired. He claimed that his wife left the gate open when she left the house, according to police.
Animal control cited Sanchez for dog at large, no microchip and no registration.
