A toddler was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Wednesday night after a dog attacked her in her own back yard, according to police.
Keith McAfee said he was helping his cousin with yard work nearby when he heard the sound of the girl's screaming.
"The next thing I see is a black PIT BULL had a little girl on the ground. It was basically shaking her around like she was a rag doll," he said.
He said he approached the dog and attempted to scare it away, but it continued to attack the girl. She only escaped, according to McAfee, when her mother stepped in to grab her and run. Multiple witnesses had called police, and the girl was taken to Children's Hospital in an ambulance.
Shortly afterward, the dog's owner appeared. McAfee said the man grabbed the dog, put it in his car and drove away.
"He should have stayed," McAfee said. "He should have stayed and seen how that baby was, but to me he was a coward, ‘cause he left."
Police stayed on the scene, but the driver and the dog had not been found by midnight Wednesday.

This is so wrong police need to find that man and lock him away. Now that baby will have to have rabies shots
Another child forever scared both physically and emotionally by a pit bull. When will people learn that the genetics of blood sport breeds, makes them a danger to keep as pets. They were never meant to be pets, and always pose a threat.

Wow, I've never heard of this before. A pit bull owner grabbing his mauler and fleeing the scene. This must be a rare event.
Does this count as the pit bull never being aggressive before? I mean, if there's no record...
I'll also add that I've never heard of a pit bull attacking in other people's yards before either. It's only ever a justified attack when someone or something wanders into a pit bull's yard.
Pit and run needs to be a felony with automatic jail time and euthanization for the dogs involved.
Classic "pit and run". Pit owners are an irresponsible lot, that is why they own blood sport animals.
This is leaving the scene of an accident just as if he had run over the child with a car! Let him sit in jail and reflect on what he's done for a dozen years.
