The boy was riding his bicycle when a dog became aggressive and bit him several times in the shoulder and upper arm, Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said.
A young friend saw the attack and screamed, which caused the dog to flee back to its property, he said.
The boy was taken to a local hospital with torn flesh and several puncture wounds. He underwent surgery about 7 p.m. Thursday.
"Based on the initial feedback we're receiving from family, he will come through OK," Leazenby said. "But the injuries were somewhat graphic, from what I understand."
The dog was shot after it became aggressive with a deputy at the scene. It was transported to a veterinary clinic in Delphi and is being quarantined for 10 days, Leazenby said.
The dog owner arrived after the shooting and was cited for harboring a non-immunized animal. Jordan Snider could face additional charges pending a review by the Carroll County prosecutor, Leazenby said.
Police are investigating how the dog was allowed to roam free that afternoon. Neighbors told deputies that the dog typically is tethered or leashed to the property.

From the behaviors displayed by both the unknown breed, and the unknown breed's owner, I'm going to guess that it was a Chihuahua. We all know Chihuahuas are the most aggressive dog out there. They can easily reach the shoulder area of a child riding on a bicycle. The fact that the Chihuahua was shot, is further proof of what breed it was. We all know it takes bullets to stop a rampaging Chihuahua.
It is common that Chihuahuas are not immunized as their owners are the most irresponsible fur mommies out there. Not to mention always allowing their Chihuahuas to run free. Rabid Chihuahuas are a menace to society, and something needs to be done.
I'm not trying to make light of the situation. I feel terrible for this child, and I'm keenly aware that it was a pit bull that did this. I only hope that someday, we will stop believing the lies of the pit bull apologists, and put a stop to pit bull attacks. Children have the right to ride their bicycles anywhere in this country, without fear of being attacked by a worthless pit bull.
