On Thursday, April 6, 2017 my 23 year old son Brandon Lee VanCleaf came over to my home to help me. I am disabled veteran and he helps me out with chores and things. His truck got stuck in front of my home and he walked to a neighbors home for assistance.  As he passed a neighbor's home a pi tbull ran out of an open door of the home to attack him,  it was quickly followed by 4 other pit bulls.  After about 15 minutes of a brutal attack, Brandon's friend Charity heard the screaming and ran up the street to help Brandon fend off the attack. Charity beat the dogs off of Brandon with a stick and for an hour the two of them staved off the brutal attack. After an hour of fighting, Charity was able to break away and run back to my home where I followed her to the attack site and shot two of the pit bulls. The other three pit bulls were captured by the owner and contained. Charity and another neighbor phoned an ambulance and Brandon was taken to the Yell County Sheriffs Department and life flighted to the University of Arkansas Medical Science Center. He was there for a few days and then transferred to a smaller hospital due to our lack of insurance. We have been released early from the hospital because of our financial situation and desperately need help for bandages and other things to help keep Brandon's wounds clean. Any help that you can give us would be greatly appreciated. We never thought that we would end up in a situation like this. Its unimaginable!

Thank you for your help.
Charles Dobbs

The pit owner should be over there on his knees bringing these people whatever they need. The medical expenses should come out of his hide. There is no excuse that will relieve the responsibility of this attack. If you don't know enough about pits to know that they are potentially dangerous, then you just should not have one. Five is ridiculously idiotic. Five that aren't properly confined is criminal.

Pits: Not even one.

This is nightmarish. I can't imagine how frightened Brandon must have been or his friend Charity when she finally made the decision to leave him and get help. I have a son too. I cannot imagine what Mr. Dobbs felt seeing his son laying on the ground hurt like that. Why have dogs like that and why were they loose? This is pure evil. There is no other word for it. Animal control and law enforcement attitudes toward loose dogs need to change.
