CLIFTON, MESA COUNTY CO - AN 18-MONTH-OLD GIRL STUCK HER FINGER THROUGH A FENCE...2 PIT BULLS WERE ON THE OTHER SIDE...HER FINGER WAS BITTEN OFF!!!

A toddler reportedly had a finger bitten off by a dog Sunday night in Clifton, and officials are investigating the incident.
Initial reports indicated that an 18-month-old girl stuck her finger through a fence and was bitten. Mesa County sheriff’s deputies and Animal Control personnel responded to 452½ Carson Lake Drive after the report was made.
Two dogs were taken into custody and quarantined, which is normal procedure when such an incident happens, said Sheriff’s Deputy Amanda Erkman. Because both dogs were on the other side of the fence from the child at the time, it was not clear which one may have caused the injury. Both are PIT BULL MIXES, Erkman said.
The call came in to 911 shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday. Less than 20 minutes later, part of the appendage was reportedly found, put on ice and taken to the hospital where the child was being treated.
“We believe we found a part of, if not the whole, finger,” said Erkman.
The dogs’ owners were cooperative with authorities, she said.
Though the incident is still under investigation, Erkman said she did not believe criminal charges would be pursued.

I'm sure the pits were just being playful... /

Dayna - either that or they felt 'threatened' when the baby put its finger through the fence and were just 'protecting themselves'.
