DETROIT MI - 2 BROTHERS WERE DROPPED OFF AT SCHOOL EARLY AND DECIDED TO WALK TO A STORE...BUT THIS IS DETROIT...THE DOG CAPITAL OF THE U.S...THEY WERE CHASED BY A DOG AND JUMPED A FENCE TO GET AWAY AND WERE THEN MAULED BY 2 PIT BULLS!

 - Two brothers who were being attacked by dogs Friday morning in Detroit were rescued by two Good Samaritans. The 10- and 12-year-old boys are being treated for the injuries but are expected to recover. One is in stable condition and other is in temporary serious condition.
The brothers had been dropped off at King Academy for the day but left school grounds, wanting to go to a party store. While they were walking a dog began chasing them and they hopped an 8-foot fence to get away. On the other side of the fence, though, were two dogs who we're told began to attack the boys immediately.
Elgin Harris had just gotten off work at the Motor City Casino when he heard a little girl screaming in the area of Strathmoore Street and Puritan Avenue, which is near Hubbell Avenue. He asked what's wrong, and she told him the dogs were attacking.
"Instantly, I just stopped thinking and took my shirt off and hopped over there and tried to help," he says. "I was throwing stuff at the dog. The dog let go and I grabbed the boy that was hurt the most, grabbed him by his arm and his pants and I picked him up over the fence and gave him to the medic."
After Harris got the one boy free and in the hands of medics, police showed up. A Detroit police officer immediately jumped the fence as he saw both dogs mauling the remaining brother. He fired a shot to distract the dogs and then, ultimately, shot and killed both dogs to rescue the boy.
Harris says he never thought about himself; he only wanted to help.
"This little boy, he could be somebody's future president, business owner. So I just hopped in there thinking for the little kids," Harris says.
A second Good Samaritan did help Harris, but FOX 2 did not get a comment from him.
Both boys, who have not yet been named, are expected to be okay. Harris wasn't injured at all in the rescue except for a few scratches.
Also on Friday, in Grand Rapids, Mich., a 3-week-old child who was left alone in a house with three dogs was attacked and killed by one of the animals. You can read more about that here

Detroit police had to kill TWO PIT BULLS  Friday morning after they attacked 10- and 12-year olds walking to the store before school.  The boys were taken to Children's Hospital. One was in serious condition while the other was in stable condition.

Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said the incident happened around 8:20 a.m., near Puritan on the city's west side, and the dogs had to be put down after advancing in a menacing fashion four different times.

"Early this morning, two brothers were dropped off at school by their mom down the street from where this incident happened,'' said Woody. "They decided they were going to walk to the store. As they're walking to the store, they are chased by a stray dog. They figured the only way to escape the dog is to jump into this fenced yard, which appears to be an abandoned liquor store. They are then attacked by two pit bulls that were in the yard.''

Officers arrived on the scene to find the dogs mauling the two boys.  Woody said police fired shots into the ground to scare the dogs away.  They run away and the officer starts moving towards the kids.

"The dogs come back and they fire a second round into the ground. The dogs run away and the officer gets to the kids," he said. "The third time, the dogs are advancing again. The officer draws his weapon and fires two rounds at each animal. Neither one goes down, but they do back off. The officer was able to get the children to the fence when the dogs started advancing for a fourth time."

After that, he said, the officer shot both dogs.

The nanny dogs were trying to get the boys to go to school. How dare they go to a party store?

I'm thrilled 2 more Detroit pit bulls are dead. I'm going to guess that nutters are not happy about it. Why did the officers have to shoot the loving nanny dogs? Why couldn't they use their tasers? Why didn't the officers try to stop the rampaging pit bulls by playing a rousing game of fetch? The officers could have used a break stick! The officers didn't let the pit bulls do their job! Those kids were trespassing and the pit bulls were protecting their property by trying to kill the kids. The pit bulls didn't have to get murdered! WAH WAH WAH!
