(KLTV) -
An East Texas woman, AGE 56, is resting in a Dallas hospital, looking at a long road to recovery after being attacked by one of her own dogs.
Gregg County authorities say it happened on Monday when officers were called to a residence north of Kilgore where the woman suffered serious injuries. Cheryl Carver of Gregg County, a nurse, is recovering in Dallas Parkland hospital from serious wounds to her arms.
"The neighbor told me they heard her hollering for help. One of the other neighbors rescued her. It was severe, absolutely severe. In fact, she had a small wound on the other arm too," says Fred Killingsworth of the Gregg County Health Department.
County health officials and deputies were called to the scene.
"Upon arriving they found out that the victims own dog had attacked her," says Josh Tubb of the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.
Family members say Carver loves the dogs.
"Whatever triggers them, we don't know what triggers them. I don't know if she was trying to feed it, got between it and another dog, she had several other dogs out there. Don't know the cause for the attack," Killingsworth says.
"Neighbors and witnesses’ nearby were able to get her away from the dog and apply pressure to the wound," Tubb says.
Something the family says probably saved Carver's life.
"Once EMS responded she was later flown to a Dallas hospital for treatment," Tubb says.
Carver's injuries included severely deep bite wounds and broken bones. But she’s alive.
The attacking dog, which is a MIXED BREED, was quarantined.
The family has set up a donation account to help Carver with the long stretch of medical bills and physical therapy she will need to recover.

The Story
This is a fundraiser for my mother, Cheryl Carver. She is a nurse in East Texas. If you know her, then you know that she is extremely passionate about her dogs and saving every stray that comes around. Prior to October 2017, she rescued a challenging pit bull. This dog was aggressive, but that only made her feel more inclined to show this abused animal love and care. In October, this dog bit her hand and broke her finger. She had to have surgery to fuse the bone together. The health department wanted to take the dog, but she wasn't having it. Despite this, she fought for this dog until she got her way to keep the dog and wanted to continue helping it. I'm sure she blamed herself for being bitten.
A few days ago, the dog attacked her again. This time her arm was almost completely torn from her body. My mother was air lifted to Dallas. She is currently in Parkland Hospital. She has had one surgery and has another tomorrow. The doctors expect her to be there 3 months. Her 3 forever fur babies will stay with me and my sisters. She will lose her home, her car, and most likely her job. We will be storing what we can. The medical bills are going to be insane and most likely I will go insane too. I need PRAYERS AND STRENGTH for her. For my mom, I promise not to hate all pitbulls because one almost took her life after her saving his two times. I have cried and asked myself why so many times today??!!! The answer is this, she forgave that dog while she laid there not knowing her own fate. She only thinks about the abuse that was caused to the poor animal to make them react in the way. This was another rescue. She has a very long road ahead of her yall. Please please please pray for an easy recovery. We are letting the house, and possibly the car go and we plan to help her with what she needs and take care of her animals. We are not sure on the outcome of her arm and future use of it, but we are hoping for the best. I LOVE YOU MOMMA. YOU ARE SELFLESS IN A WAY THAT I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND BUT I WILL TRY. 😥😥😥

Im am so disappointed that not one paper or news station reported this. Really? Facebook peeps need to be paid to do tbe jobs of reporters. Her right arm was torn from her body and carried seperately to a helicopter that blocked off a major road and nothing. no updates about a road closure or anything. Neightbors and fb networking did all of there job. Just sad. Then i tell them and act like its bs. Exact question " why did the helicopter block a road" this was a dog attack". The pic was after a dog attack"? Call county since your late theres a report. Meanwhile im going to see whats being posted from them until now. Lets see whats news is worthy of them
Absolutely the BEST Orthopedic Surgeon around and his great staff also: Ryan Patterson MD with Sabrina and Veronica....they were so good to me, made my hands work right again too!! You can find them at

The poor, poor doggy was abused and hungry. His new fur mommy forgot to feed him so he had to fix his own dinner. Besides, no doubt, she offered to feed him a finger or an arm and then wanted the chewy morsels back. How unfair! Does any of this make sense? Of course not. Neither does breeding pitbulls and then expecting other people to fix these dogs with genetically damaged brains. Does anyone believe human serial killers can be rehabilitated? Neither can truly dangerous dogs be rehabilitated.
Another part of this tragedy is the resources that are wasted on aggressive pit bulls. This woman meant well, I guess, but all of her compassion, money, time, etc, were spent trying to save a dog that was not only unsalvageable, but dangerous. Now this seriously misplaced (idiocy) charitableness has destroyed her life. I wish these pitiots would listen to those of us whose only agenda is to stop the bloodshed. There are plenty of other creatures on this planet that need someone's help. And most of them won't repay you by ripping your arm off.
Thank you Anon 5:56!
Can a Golden Retriever be rehabilitated from retrieving? A German Shepherd from shepherding? A Husky from pulling a dog sled?
The problem with pit bulls is, even friendly pit bulls are capable of removing someone's arm, killing someone's dog, or worse, killing a loved one. When there is a known aggressive pit bull, and it has recently attacked, broke a finger, and sent you to an orthopaedic surgeon, it is time to accept that the pit bull is extremely dangerous, and should be humanely euthanized.
Now, I bet you anything, this moron will try and save her extremely dangerous pit bull and it will go on to kill someone. These are murder dogs, they are not nanny dogs. Breed Specific Legislation would take the terrible decision making processes away from these delusional women who think they can save them all.
What is the point in saving pit bulls anyway? Especially after it attacks its owner the first time? I guess the injuries weren't substantial enough to make a ton of money on the internet? No, you gotta prove your street cred by losing a limb to your stray, worthless, dangerous, pit bull.
I value my fingers, let alone my arms and my life. I don't need a pit bull to prove I'm special. That I can somehow squelch a latent desire in every single pit bull out there.
There's something about this particular situation that bothers me. I looked at her entire facebook page and it appears that "the victim" moved a lot and had just moved in this place a week or two prior. Just a few days ago there's a post where she's frantically searching for "Buddy" because he's loose and she can't find him. She was arrested for not vaccinating and letting dogs run loose in 2012. Knowing the level of 'mental illness' that permeates the rescue/hoarding hobby in women ... I want to see more pictures of her in that hospital with doctors comments and maybe some reliable news articles about this attack. We've all seen the pictures/videos of children/adults torn from limb to limb in the hospital beds. There's always a lot of medical equipment attached and around them???? On her daughter's FB it appears that people are questioning this funding page!!! Correct me if I'm wrong!!!
All you need to have to rescue a dangerous pitbull is a nice chain and a strong tree. You don't need such expensive items as secure fences or insurance. It's better the idiotic rescuer got attacked rather than the innocent public. Hopefully, someone will develop a brain. Rehabilitate the human neurons so the brain works right. By the way, was the attacker destroyed?
I've just searched the Gregg Co Sheriff's fb and found no post on this attack. I'm going next to Longview Police fb and look. On the daughter's fb - Aimee Jemenez - she and another daughter are discussing the cost and where to take "THE PUPS" to be vaccinated. They want to make sure the youcaring.com account says it was a "dog attack" and not a "pit bull" attack. One of the victim's friends "clarifies" which dog was the attacker by saying it was not the beloved "Buddy" but another dog said to be a pit/mastiff mix she had chained to a tree. It's like a horrible 10-car pile up on the Beltline. I can't help but look at it! I live with nutters like this all around me on a daily basis. It's not about the welfare of animals. It's about hoarding, scheming and keeping the drama going.
HER RIGHT ARM WAS TORN FROM HER BODY!
FAINTS
Totally preventable! Nutters will do anything to save their pit bulls, and pit bull reputations! What they should be doing is an about face, and WARNING THE PUBLIC about how dangerous pit bulls are, especially ones that have previously attacked!
Excellent detective work DecaturAL! Even though this makes me want to barf, it is important to expose these fur mommy nutters. They are just as dangerous as their dangerous pit bulls!
