The incident, which took place at 127 Polk Street, occurred when a PIT BULL began attacking the man who was having a domestic dispute and officers were called, said Av Harris, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police Department.
"One of our police officers had to shoot the dog to stop the attack," Harris said.
According to Harris, the dog was still alive Tuesday evening, but he was not sure of its condition.
The man was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment.

The question is, was the pit bull a hero? Did it choose the right person to attack? Will the nutters latch onto this story, and promote the pit bull as saving the damsel in distress?
Does anyone else worry about fighting in front of their dogs as a trigger? In my household, we don't have domestic disputes that would cause our dog to attack, non-stop, and require the police to shoot the dog in order to gain control.
Oh well, such is life in the world of nutters. They try so hard to paint pit bulls as normal dogs, and the reality is, pit bulls are far from normal, and so are their owners.
Dang it! Shoot to kill! Don't miss that pit.
