A 68-year-old woman is in serious condition after being mauled by two dogs in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood near 65th Street and Evans Avenue.  Police say they received the call around 7:30 Monday night after the woman’s screams were heard by a samaritan passing by the area.

Greg Mallette says he was sitting in his car when he heard the woman scream.  “I heard screaming. I checked my mirrors and as I looked in my left mirror, I saw a lady on the ground with  TWO PIT BULLS  mauling her,” said Mallette.

Mallette said he threw bricks at the dogs, but the dogs would not get off the woman. Police say they arrived on the scene and honked their horns at the animals, but they wouldn’t budge, that’s when an officer shot one of the dogs.
The victim was rushed to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with dog bites all over her body.
The dog that was shot is still alive. Both animals were taken by Animal Control.
At this time, police do not know where the dogs came from or who they belong to. This is an ongoing investigation.

A 68-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was attacked by two dogs Monday evening in the city's West Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.

Police said officers responded to a report of vicious animals in the 6500-block of South Evans Avenue around 7:30 p.m. There they found a woman being attacked by two dogs.

A man who saw the attack frantically tried to help, tossing bricks at the dogs as police arrived. The man also honked his horns as he saw the dogs attack the woman, then got out to try to get them off her, but he said they would not stop mauling her.

The man said as police arrived the dogs kept attacking, until one went after an officer and that officer opened fire right at the dog's head. Both were eventually captured. Animal Control also responded to the scene.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with bites all over her body.

A neighbor said he has seen two dogs wandering through the neighborhood with no collars or tags, walking together. He said he believes they are the same dogs involved in the attack.

Sounds like a nutter owner trying to throw authorities off of his trail.
