ETOWAH COUNTY AL - A PIT BULL ATTACKED A 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL OUTSIDE HER HOME AND DRAGGED HER TOWARD THE WOODS...HER SISTER FOUGHT THE MONSTER AND GRANDMOTHER ARRIVED ...THE MEAT GRINDER GOT INTO THEIR HOUSE STILL GOING AFTER THE CHILD!!!
A 9-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was attacked by a dog at a residence on Broken Arrow Drive in the Turkeytown area, according to Etowah County Chief Deputy Michael Barton.
The attack occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday, Barton said. The 9-year-old and her older sister were inside the residence and heard a noise outside, Barton said.
Thinking it was their cat, they went outside. At the corner of the house, a black PIT BULL attacked the 9-year-old girl, biting her on the legs.
“If her sister had not been there, there could have been a far worse outcome,” Barton said. “The sister said the dog dragged her across the backyard and was dragging her toward the woods.”
What she did, he said, was nothing short of heroic.
The sister hit and kicked at the dog and it released the girl, but as she tried to get her sister inside, the dog knocked them down again.
The girls' grandmother arrived and helped get them inside, Barton said, BUT THE DOG CAME INTO THE HOUSE, STILL GOING AFTER THE CHILD.
They were able to get the dog out, and they took the children to a local hospital, Barton said. The 9-year-old was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
When deputies arrived, they tried to control the dog for animal control, but the dog turned on the deputies as well, Barton said, and had to be shot.
