ASHEBORO, RANDOLPH COUNTY NC - A PIT BULL ATTACKED A WOMAN IN A BUSINESS PARKING LOT ... A PASSERBY CAME TO HER AID AND SHOT THE DOG
A PIT BULL was shot and later euthanized after attacking a woman Tuesday.
According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department, animal control officer Ryan Mickey and EMS responded to the area of 191 N.C. Highway 42 N. after a report of an animal attack at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Mickey observed a large gray pit bull being held in the bed of a truck, bleeding from the face.
After securing the dog, Mickey was informed that it had been shot after apparently attacking the victim, Shannon Freeman, of Archdale.
Freeman reported that she was in the parking lot of a business when she noticed two pit bulls approaching her. She raised her arm to defend herself and was bitten on the left hand and above the right knee by the one-year-old pit bull named Roscoe.
Durwood Cheek, a passerby who happened to be in the area at the time of the incident, intervened and shot the dog.
Mickey contacted Randolph County Animal Control and was advised that the dog would either need emergency surgery or to be euthanized. The owner, Charles Ridley, opted to have Roscoe euthanized.
Ridley provided up-to-date rabies information on Roscoe. He also reported that the dogs escaped from a fenced-in area at his residence.
Freeman’s injuries were treated on scene and she was not transported to the hospital.
