A child was rushed to St. Tammany Hospital in Covington after being attacked by a PIT BULL in Franklinton. Officers were called to the 400 block of 15th Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
According to Major Justin Brown with the Franklinton Police Department, officers arrived on scene to find the animal attacking the 9-year-old boy. Officers used a taser to get the dog off of the child. Maj. Brown adds that when the dog tried to attack the boy again, it was shot and killed by an officer.
The animal will be tested for rabies. Investigators are working to determine who the animal belonged to.
The boy reportedly suffered moderate injuries and underwent surgery, according to police.
