FOX13 obtained a copy of the police report which said the child and his mother were playing ball at the park on Wednesday when the pit bull attacked at Shelby Farms.
The dog's owner was at the park, and the police report said the owner refused to provide information to the mother.
FOX13 spoke to the mother via text message. After the dog attacked her son, she immediately began to try and pull it off.
She said her son suffered deep bite marks and cuts on his face and head. The injuries resulted in the boy getting staples in his head. He also had to have surgeries on his fingers.
The mother told FOX13 the owner of the dog didn't help and used vulgar language toward her.
He did not have a leash to restrain his dog, according to the mom.
The police report does not list any witnesses of the attack.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office told FOX13 the investigation is ongoing.
