Two people were hospitalized after their dog reportedly attacked them in south Tulsa, prompting an officer to shoot the animal Tuesday evening.
Officers responded to reports of a PIT BULL attacking a woman at the Vista Shadow Mountain apartments near 61st Street and Memorial Drive about 5:30 p.m. While en route to the scene, they were advised that the dog still was attacking the woman, who was bleeding profusely, according to police.
Firefighters arrived at the complex first and found the woman lying on a second-floor landing while semiconscious and suffering severe wounds. “The dog held firefighters at bay, preventing them from accessing the injured woman,” police reported.
The dog later allegedly charged down the stairs at firefighters and officers, one of whom shot the animal with a pistol. The dog died from its injuries, police said.
First responders also found a man who had been injured by the dog in a nearby apartment. Firefighters carried the victims to a nearby parking lot, where they were treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital.
EMSA confirmed that the woman, who sustained the most serious injuries in the attack, was transported in emergent condition.
Emergent condition indicates a patient’s injuries are considered either serious or critical.
Police say the dog belonged to the victims. Neighbors told officers that it was known to be vicious and had previously bit the woman.

Glad it was the owners. They must not have raised it right or something.
Its been a banner year for pit owners being attacked. I'm so glad it's them and not an innocent person or animal.
