Friday afternoon (October 26), a woman and her husband were walking their dachshund on 14th Street between Post Office and Market in Galveston, Texas.

A loose dog attacked the couple's dachshund as well as the woman, along with her husband they both try to fight off the dog.

In the video you can see several people trying to help the woman as she is being tossed on the ground while protecting her dachshund, one using an umbrella.

A man is also seen on the ground which most likely is her husband.

Police say the woman's injuries are serious and most likely will require surgery. The husband has injuries to the hand.

The dog was identified by animal control and police as a Blue  PIT BULL  and this is not the first time the dog has been out.

Galveston Police Department spokesman Capt. Joshua Schirard says the dogs owner has been cited in the past for the dog running loose.

Animal control did take custody of the Blue Pit bull. The couple's dachshund was being treated, but no serious injuries.

Police will continue the investigation and charges may be pending along with the dog's status.
