TROUTVILLE, BOTETOURT VA - A WOMAN TRIED TO STOP HER PIT FROM BARKING AT ANOTHER DOG WHEN SHE WAS WALKING IT ...IT TURNED ON HER!!!

Botetourt County sheriff’s deputies used a Taser to subdue a dog that attacked its owner in Troutville last week.
A woman was walking her dog in the 100 block of Heather Lane on Oct. 2 when it started barking at another dog, said Sgt. Kevin Crowder.
When she tried to quiet her dog, a PIT BULL MIX, it bit her on the arm, Crowder said. Her screams brought a neighbor running. He picked up a large rock and came toward the dog.
“He told her he might kill her dog,” Crowder said. “She told him do it.”
The man hit the dog with the rock. It released its grip and bit the woman on the other arm, as well as her thigh, Crowder said.
The dog also bit the neighbor, but he was able to hold down the animal until Botetourt County sheriff’s deputies arrived.
Deputies used a Taser on the dog twice before animal control took it away. The dog’s owner opted for it to be euthanized.
The dog did not test positive for rabies, Crowder said.

This is just another case of misdirected aggression. If one has level-headed German Shepherd dogs as I do, there is little reason to be concerned about the dogs redirecting in bite-work type classes or in any other situation. However, this is a problem in too many pitbulls. A local retired fire chief was severely bitten on his leg when one of his two fighting pitbulls redirected on his leg. It seems to me that owners of pitbulls should want to pay attention to this pitbull trait. What does that mean? Keep the dog at home away from other people and animals so it doesn't have a reason to redirect. That keeps the dog alive and the owner free of physical pain as well as not needing medical treatment.
