(KXII) - On Saturday, 8-year-old Lyndon Bartlett was just a few feet away from her house on Walter Road when out of nowhere a PIT BULL MIX came from behind and attacked her.
"I heard the scream and at first it didn't click that it was my daughter, like everyone else you never think its your kid", said Kelly Bartlett, Lyndon's father.
She was just a few feet away from her house on Walter Road, playing with several friends.
Suddenly out of nowhere the dog came from behind and attacked her, taking her down to the concrete.
"All of the sudden it just jumped up on her and started to just ripping her, I just started backing away slowly and I didn't know what to do", this according to a friend of Lyndon who was playing with her.
Another neighbor who witnessed the attack said, "Literally just started rag dolling her".
The dog bit Lyndon on her behind and back.
Neighbors who saw it happen say her screams sounded like something out of a horror movie.
Jason Bonn, a neighbor who ran to the girl as soon as it happened said, "I grabbed her up and was trying to figure out where her mom and dad was and ran her to her house and beat her door open and told them that she had just been attacked by a pit bull".
She was taken to Denton Regional Hospital, and is recovering. She is expected to survive.
Neighbors tell us the dog had somehow escaped the owner's property.
No arrests have been made but the father says he plans to file charges on the dog owner.
The animal is being quarantined at the Refinery Road Vet Clinic and will most likely will be put down.
Police say they are continuing to investigate.
Lyndon's father said, "Its the mental trauma that I'm afraid is going to take the longest for her to get over".
