A family from Union Township is distraught after their show pony was viciously attacked and killed by three dogs on Christmas Eve.
Don Smith is the owner of a show pony named Gonzo. Gonzo was a performance horse who specialized in galloping. Around 12 p.m., on Dutch Hill Rd, Smith said he heard animals in the barn. Not thinking anything of it he walked into the barn, never expecting to see what he saw.
“That was a horrible horrible scene. To see a big dog 90 pounds grabbing on your pony your pet by the throat and dragging him down and trying to rip and rip and rip,” said Owner of the pony, Don Smith.
Smith tells Erie News Now he shot and killed two of the dogs with his rifle. State Police confirm that all three dogs belong to a resident who lives a few miles down the road, Dean Leroy McCray. According to the police report, McCray is facing one count of animal cruelty. State Police say McCray failed to properly secure the three dangerous dogs. The dog breeds have not been confirmed or identified, but Smith said they resembled a PIT BULL MIXED WITH ANOTHER BREED.
Don Smith is proceeding with charges but says it it is not going to bring Gonzo back.

The loss of this pony was inexcusable. In addition, some reporter needs to get his/her facts straight. The impressive high stepping gait of a hackney pony is a trot. This pony didn't specialize in galloping. Secretariat specialized in galloping. He was a Thoroughbred.

OMG WTF?!

It never ends! These horrible, preventable, tragic, devastating, needless attacks!

This is why I hate pit bulls! They kill for the thrill. We do not need animals like this!

I've only looked at three articles tonight on this webpage and I'm done! SICK OF THIS!
